Team Perfect Circle

Team Perfect Circle isn't just another racing outfit; it carries a legendary legacy tied to the golden era of sports car racing. The original team etched its name into the history books by winning the 1969 Kyalami 9 Hour, with David Piper and Richard Attwood behind the wheel of an iconic white Porsche 917. Exactly five decades later, in 2019, passionate South African racer Andre Bezuidenhout revived the Team Perfect Circle name—with the official blessing of David Piper himself. The team made an emotional return to the modernized Intercontinental GT Challenge Kyalami 9 Hour, fielding a Porsche 997 GT3 R draped in a period-correct tribute livery. Beyond their historic Porsche roots, the team is a formidable force in South Africa's premier national circuit racing series, the VW Supacup.

Photographing Team Perfect Circle has given me the unique opportunity to document two completely different extremes of South African motorsport: the grueling marathon of the Kyalami 9 Hour and the cutthroat, door-to-door sprint racing of the Volkswagen SupaCup. At Kyalami, the challenge was capturing the sheer stamina of an endurance campaign, shooting their Porsche 911 GT3 R as it battled changing light, intense track temperatures, and a world-class GT grid over nine hours. In contrast, shooting them in the VW SupaCup meant freezing the aggressive, split-second action of identical race cars fighting for every inch of tarmac.
