Classic Porsche
Having our family project featured in Classic Porsche was a massive milestone. Published in the UK by Kelsey Media—the same expert team behind the market-leading 911 & Porsche World—it holds a special place in the automotive world as the only magazine dedicated entirely to the classic, air-cooled Porsche scene.
For the April 2023 issue (Issue 94) of Classic Porsche, I had the incredible opportunity to step both in front of and behind the lens for a feature titled "Salute the Colours." This one is deeply personal—it showcases a Porsche 914 that my dad, Tim Abbot, and I built together at Abbot Cars in South Africa. Heavily inspired by the legendary 917 and Steve McQueen’s Le Mans, we transformed a 1970 1.7-litre model into an aggressive, Gulf-liveried machine powered by a potent 2.4-litre flat-six. Built specifically to tackle South Africa’s Targa road rallies, the car wears its iconic Zenith Blue and Tangerine colors proudly. Paired with words by Johann Venter, my photography was designed to capture both the meticulous bespoke fabrication—right down to the 917-style front air scoop—and the sheer, visceral thrill of driving our family creation on the open road.
